NCJW|LA is proud to host Mazon's This is Hunger exhibit for three days, from August 16 through August 18 at NCJW|LA Council House. Hunger is a specter in the lives of far too many Americans - especially women, who are 35% more likely to live in poverty than men. MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger and the National Council of Jewish Women|Los Angeles invite you to visit the This is Hunger truck for a 45-minute long interactive exhibit on the experiences of those who face hunger in the US and what we can all do to help alleviate this crisis. The exhibit will be open to visitors during the below times (hour long shifts) so make sure to go to the Eventbrite link to sign up for one of the shifts: Wednesday, 8/16 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm Thursday, 8/17 from 11:00am - 6:00pm Friday, 8/18 from 9:00am - 1:00pm These sessions will offer visitors the opportunity to participate in the complete 45 minute exhibit. Tours will be offered hourly and registration is required. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR VISIT -- We will have limited parking on a first come first serve basis for all of Wednesday, Thursday until 3pm and all of Friday.  If you want to park in the NCJWLA lot, try and arrive a little early for your shift otherwise, Fairfax ave. has metered parking that you can use in addition to any street parking you find in the area *Guests are highly encouraged to arrive 5 minutes early. Guests arriving later than 5 minutes past their reserved time slot will not be admitted. *Due to security concerns, it is always best to call ahead if you do not have a reservation. *Recommended for school groups in 6th grade and above. Parents, at their discretion, are welcome to bring children of all ages to visit the truck as a family. Please be advised that this is a museum environment and includes a 14-minute audio-visual experience during which guests will be asked to sit quietly. Questions? MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger and the National Council of Jewish Women|Los Angeles invite you to join us for a powerful evening of art and advocacy to explore women's experiences of hunger, and what we can all do to help alleviate the crisis. The program is co-sponsored by the Feminist Majority Foundation and will feature Abby Leibman, President and CEO of MAZON and Helen Davidov, President of NCJW|LA. The This Is Hunger Exhibit will be open from: 6:00-7:00 pm 8:30-9:00 pm for a streamlined version of the exhibit. The California Values Act will protect the safety and well-being of all Californians by ensuring that state and local resources are not used to fuel mass deportations, separate families, or terrorize our communities. The bill will provide essential safeguards to ensure that police, schools, health facilities, courts, and the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement remain accessible to Californians from all walks of life and that California’s limited resources are directed to matters of greatest concern to state and local governments. Advocacy Training Project: Presenting Your Advocacy Message

Join NCJW|LA this fall for six advocacy training workshops. This is your toolkit for building a grassroots campaign!
TICKETS $20 per workshop or $110 for all 6 workshops ($10 discount) 

The Presenting Your Advocacy Message workshop will help you craft a succinct message so you can communicate effectively about your cause to different audiences. You’ll gain skills and tools that will be useful in speaking, writing, social media, and all forms of communication.

Attendees of all 6 workshops receive a certificate of program completion from the City of West Hollywood. There is no requirement to attend all workshops to take part in the program. Participation is open to people of all genders and sexual orientations. All workshops include snacks and refreshments and will be held from 2-5pm

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an in-depth eight week course in meditative awareness designed to help participants enter into a new relationship with the present moment and effectively manage a variety of stress-related conditions. This is the flagship mindfulness program created by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. Series begins October 18th 6-8:30 PM and continues for 8 consecutive Wednesday evenings through December 6th.  There is an all-day retreat from 9-4 PM on Sunday, November 19th. Free Orientation/information session on September 27th 6 - 8 PM at NCJW|LA To register for the orientation, please contact Stephanie Flax (323) 852-8521 Cost: $225 for NCJW|LA members and $300 for non-members with limited scholarships available. To enroll in the series, participants need to attend the orientation or speak directly with the facilitator. Program led by Rachel Donaldson, certified MBSR instructor.
